Eric Engdahl

PhD, Chair, Professor

Dr. Eric Engdahl is the chair of the Department of Teacher Instruction. He teaches standards-based visual and performing arts methods to undergraduates, multiple-subject credential candidates, and masters students in the Early Childhood Education programme. His classes cover how to finer integrate visual and performing arts across the curricula. He teaches single field of study methods courses in visual art, social studies, concrete education, and music. In addition to pedagogy at CSUEB, he has taught in the Actor Training Program at Solano College, Wright Land University, and Florida International University. He works equally a consultant and artist in the classroom with many schools in the East Bay.

James Mitchell

PhD, Professor

Dr. James M. Mitchell is a professor of Teacher Education and has been a member of the CSUEB Teacher Education faculty since 2002. He teaches courses in the Educational Psychology rail of the credential program as well every bit Applied science in Teaching and Professional Responsibilities. His enquiry focuses on cooperation and conflict resolution as related to HIV/AIDS education and service learning, as well as democratic-citizenship skill evolution through cooperation in the classroom. He has taught in the CSUEB Online Teaching and Learning program and has co-developed an online grade in HIV/AIDS pedagogy that has been used by over 1,000 teacher leaders and K-12 administrators worldwide. For the 2016-17 bookish year, Dr. Mitchell served as Special Consultant / Acting Area Managing director - Northern Region, to the CalState TEACH program. From 01/08 through 12/08 Dr. Mitchell chaired the Teacher Education Department. He also has served as Team Leader for the Single Subject field Online Team, as well every bit the Transition-to-Teaching program squad, a partnership with the Alameda Canton Role of Instruction, in which classroom paraprofessionals earned their State of California education credential. Since 2014, Dr. Mitchell has served as a member of the CSUEB Information Technology Informational Commission.

Mary Soto

EdD, Banana Professor

Dr. Mary Soto is an assistant professor in the Section of Teacher Education. She teaches English Methods, Introduction to Teaching Emergent Bilinguals, and Inclusive Teaching in Unmarried Discipline/Multiple Subject Classrooms. Her research focuses on long-term English Learners and effective strategies for differentiating Language Arts curriculum.

Dr. Soto is a Board Member of the California Quango of Teacher Educators. Before coming to CSUEB, Dr. Soto was the Bilingual Education Program Coordinator at California State University, Chico. Prior to that, she taught high school theater, E.L.D. and English in California, Mexico, and South Texas.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Soto enjoys working out at the gym and going for long hikes in the beautiful Bay Area. She has two children who attend elementary and loftier schoolhouse in Hayward. Her hubby has been a bilingual elementary school teacher for over 25 years.
